Notes for meeting at Intel in Building 12 in Santa Clara at 1:00 on Tuesday 12/14/04. Jeff Kidder hosted us in room 209. David Hough & Dan Zuras attended. Jim Thomas was on the phone. We started by calling Jim. He had valid comments about range & precision being part of operations not operands & he's right. I'll change it. Then we discussed how to run meetings. Jeff brought up the notion of bin lists. That & trying to run the meeting more on point is something I'll try to do better in the future. Then basic formats. Underflow. There was some discussion of exactly what the definition of abrupt underflow should be under the various rounding modes. Oddly enough, interval arithmetic constrains this answer. Abrupt underflow could affect the definition of underflow itself. The mental model of the new underflow is simple & might be made more complicated by this. Then expression. Dave added shorten-add/subtract to section 5.
